What are acceptable substrates?
Acceptable substrates include:
- Plywood (APA-rated)
- OSB (Oriented Strand Board)
- Structural Concrete Decks
- Lightweight Concrete with APA-rated underlayment (plywood/OSB)
- Cementitious Boards
- Rigid Insulation Panels (with approved cover board)
Can Dec-Tec adhere to itself?
Yes, it can. Dec-Tec can overlap and weld itself to ensure watertight seams.
How do you apply the Dec-Tec system?
The membrane is adhered using a solvent-based adhesive, heat-welded at the seams, and flashed at edges. This ensures waterproofing and slip resistance.
Is the metal drip-clad flashing mechanically fastened or adhered to the substrate?
It must be mechanically fastened (screwed/nail fixed), not glued.
Can you use adhesives other than Dec-Tec for this system?
No. Only Dec-Tec approved adhesives should be used for warranty and performance assurance.
How do you attach the substrate to the wall so the vinyl should not break at corners?
Use an APA-approved underlayment installed flush against the wall. Dec-Tec must be properly flashed and welded at corners to prevent breaks.
In what temperatures can the glue be applied?
Dec-Tec adhesives can be applied in temperatures as low as -6°C (20°F) but work best in moderate weather.
Does the deck have to be dry to put the glue down?
Yes, the surface must be clean and dry before applying adhesive.
Should the glue be dry before you put the membrane down? How long does it take to dry?
Yes. Adhesive must be tacky-dry (not wet) before membrane installation. Drying time depends on temperature and humidity, typically 10–20 minutes.
What is the spread/rot system?
This is the system Dec-Tec uses to protect against rot and water damage by ensuring proper water drainage and preventing moisture buildup under the membrane.

Yes. Dec-Tec is durable and designed as a walking surface, suitable for decks, balconies, and walkways.
